Overview

We have a dynamic opportunity for an experienced and skilled Assistant Plumber to join our Client’s hospitality team in Stellenbosch. 

The Assistant Plumber supports the Senior Plumber with the installation, maintenance, repair, and inspection of plumbing systems across the hotel and associated facilities. The role assists in ensuring water supply, drainage, sanitation, and hot water systems operate safely and efficiently, while developing practical technical skills and experience.

Core Responsibilities

  • Assist with the installation, maintenance, repair and replacement of plumbing systems, fixtures, fittings, and pipework.
  • Support preventative maintenance programmes and routine inspections.
  • Assist with diagnosing and repairing leaks, blockages, burst pipes, faulty valves, water pressure issues, and other plumbing defects.
  • Assist with pumps, geysers, boilers, water heaters, pressure systems, and related equipment.
  • Perform basic pipe cutting, threading, soldering, fitting, and assembly under supervision.
  • Assist with the maintenance of drainage, sewerage, stormwater, irrigation, and water reticulation systems.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and urgent call-outs.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, workshops, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organised condition.
  • Comply with OHS requirements, PPE and safety procedures, and report hazards immediately.
  • Assist with maintaining maintenance records and monitoring plumbing stock and materials.
  • Provide courteous service in guest areas and support the team.
  • Work safely in indoor and outdoor environments, including confined spaces.
  • Perform physical and manual tasks, including lifting, climbing ladders, and working in various positions as required.
  • Work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays, according to operational requirements.

Knowledge / Skills / Qualities

  • Basic plumbing qualification or apprenticeship or currently studying towards a relevant qualification.
  • 1–2 years’ experience in plumbing or building maintenance.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing systems, maintenance, and safety practices.
  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Good time management, reliability, and willingness to learn.
  • Customer-service orientated with a professional and courteous manner.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, guest service, and sustainability.
  • Valid driver’s licence.
  • Medically fit to perform the inherent physical and safety-sensitive requirements of the position, including required medical assessments.
  • Willingness to assist with additional maintenance duties as required.
