Overview

Our client is a trendy, upscale cocktail bar and restaurant with a focus on innovative cocktails and tapas style dining located in the heart of Ballito. Our client is known for our creative cocktails, unique dining experiences and pairing/tasting experiences.

Position Summary:

This is a unique opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced General Manager / Head Chef to lead all aspects of the operations at this trendy establishment.  The successful candidate will possess strong culinary expertise, exceptional management skills, and a passion for creating unforgettable guest experiences. This role requires a hands-on approach, with responsibilities spanning from menu development and kitchen management to staff supervision and overall business performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Culinary Leadership:
    • Develop and oversee the execution of innovative and creative food menus, ensuring high-quality dishes with a focus on seasonal ingredients, local sourcing and unique flavour combinations
    • Manage all aspects of kitchen operations, including food ordering, inventory control, and cost management.
    • Train and mentor kitchen staff, ensuring high standards of food preparation and presentation.
    • Maintain a safe and hygienic kitchen environment, adhering to all food safety regulations.
    • Develop monthly pairing menus alongside wine makers and distributors to develop, prepare and deliver wine pairing menus.
  • Operational Management:
    • Provide guidance to the bar manager and oversee all aspects of bar operations, including staff scheduling, inventory management, and customer service.
    • Ensure smooth and efficient service delivery, exceeding guest expectations.
    • Aid in Manage bar budgets and maximize profitability.
    • Develop and implement marketing and promotional strategies to drive customer traffic.
    • Maintain strong relationships with suppliers and vendors.
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant liquor licensing laws and regulations.
  • Guest Experience:
    • Cultivate a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere for guests.
    • Interact with guests, ensuring their satisfaction and addressing any concerns promptly.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with local clientele and the community.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing team.
    • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
    • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback.
  • Ensure staff are properly trained and equipped to deliver exceptional service

Position Requirements / Qualification

  • Proven experience as an Executive Chef or Head Chef in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
  • Strong culinary skills with a passion for innovative cuisine.
  • Excellent management and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and lead a team.
  • Strong financial acumen and ability to manage budgets effectively.
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in food safety and hygiene regulations.
  • Experience in the hospitality industry, particularly in a bar or nightlife setting, is highly advantageous.
  • A strong understanding of local market trends and competitive landscape.
  • Passion for creating unique and memorable guest experiences.
